We’ve created the equivalent of a semester long education program with twice monthly, engaging seminars with the people making and writing about history.
We launched the Master Teacher Recognition program. Teachers who participate and submit evidence of their teaching (details here) will be eligible to choose from a number of prizes to reward their hard work and diligence.
Registrants for Why America? 2020 – Toward a More Perfect Union receive free access to the professional development and certification platform CredEd.
Finally, we’ll be rewarding students for their hard work for demonstrating their learning from one of the lessons the program helped to grow. Contest details will be announced October 15th.

How many people know why Lafayette Park stands across from the White House, which statues are there and why, and what major protests in history got the attention of the president? For generations, no matter how contentious the battle, the President’s park remained open. Today it is closed, defiled and nearly destroyed by well-meaning protesters seeking to rectify injustice, but not understanding if and how peaceful assembly, done well, can at least help mitigate the worst offenses. Looking at the past protests, the origins of the First Amendment and the countries from which America took its lessons, and how historians across the country are looking at these issues is, we hope, the first step toward regaining a strong civic foothold in America.
